Monday, September 24th, 2007Mild Obsession, Perhaps…
Thursday, September 20th, 2007This kind of image makes me smile and gives me hope. Childhood is still accessible, and art is still kicking.
I am at 12+ hours of near continual photo editing. Once I get into the groove, it is hard to get out. The ideas start coming, they don’t want to stop, and then I don’t want to stop. I enjoy the process, but it can be taxing on my noggin. Focusing is a bit hard right now. Enrico gets a kick out of the general confusion that descends when I finally peel myself away from my images. I plan on riding that confusion right to bed.
This image was the final one of the night. The rest of the time I was editing for the book. Edit, edit, edit! I needed something strictly creative and silly to round things out.
I found that.

Ein mehr…

This blog is getting a little dull…sorry about that. Just too much other stuff going on. This seems to have been the case for the whole summer.
It seems like I am always doing something here. Berlin is the kind of city where if you are not strict about your plans they can easily snowball and you will find yourself days later exhausted wondering what day it is and where your sunglasses are. There is just always something going on whether it is a friend’s party, a gallery opening, a good DJ spinning, or some great weather that just begs for a bike ride. I definitely enjoy myself here, and this is what make is hard to sit down and write about it all to a random audience that I have very little direct interaction with.
That said, I still like the project, and I am hoping to redouble my efforts in production. We’ll see what happens. I expect the cooler fall weather to keep me inside a bit more so maybe that will help…even though I love fall.
As for personal news, I am all over the place. Photography is lodged front and center in my brain (which is lovely), but I am a bit frustrated by the other distractions that take away from it like scrounging for money and tending to all the peripheral shit that comes with making photos. A deep bank account and a couple of assistants would be prima! (Like that is going to happen any time soon, but I can dream, right?) I am also out of hard drive space AGAIN. I have six drives here, but with some of my edited photos at half of a gigabyte and having months like July where I shot some 6000 images, it doesn’t take much to eat up 120 GB drives. I would adore getting my hands on some mirrored network storage that counts in terabytes. Again, peripheral shit to sort out that doens’t directly deal with the creative process. Oh, the agony!! ;-)
Ok, back to photo editing. The photos for the book need to be done next week and I still have a lot of work ahead of me. This is one above is one more example.

I just completed 7 hours of photo-editing for this street art book (see the above example, and yes that flash is in there intitally).
Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!!
It was a good run, but my brain is pretty much fried at the moment. I need to get the hell out of this chair and away from the computer.
I have until September 25th to have all the photos ready for the publisher. I am thinking I will do between 200-250, and then edit those down to 150. The book is due to be printed at the end of the year…in Latvia. It will be out just in time for Christmas for those of you looking for a stellar gift idea, and I mean stellar! There will be only 2000 copies so be sure and reserve yours today!! (I don’t think that is even possible.)
Ugh. Ok, I need to get outside. I have been sitting here for a really long time and my ass is sore. Enrico and I are going for a middle-of-the-night bike ride. We do this regularly. It is nice to cruise around the city at the odd hours; no traffic or rush. Just lots of time and space to wander.
Ciao,

Giant Jenga
Monday, September 3rd, 2007It was a very pleasant Sunday.
We woke at 8:30 a.m. to go dancing for a few hours at Maria, and then spent the afternoon at Unkul – my favorite place to hang in the city.
There, we encountered Giant Jenga.
SUCH a good idea. Just imagine the tension in the potential collapse of a regular-sized Jenga game and the concluding crash amplified via a scale-up into two-by-fours oak blocks. Needless to say the concluding crash is stellar. “Resounding” is an apt term.
The “we” I speak of included miene Freunde Sammy (Philly), Daniel (NYC), Jawu (Berlin) and Enrico (Berlin). I also danced a bit more at Unkul.
It was a highly enjoyable (and enjoyed) afternoon spent with excellent company, and all the dancing was good exercise. I am pleasantly fatigued and looking forward to bedtime…which is soon.
Bis dann,
t
